Everton Home
Jan 1, 2012 West Bromwich Albion
Score – Lost 1-0
Thoughts – New Year’s Day 12.30 kick off is a stupid time to play football
Having said it’s a stupid time to play this game was as good as lost and won in the team managers heads. Albion’s Roy Hodgson perhaps content with the points already gained over the holiday period seemed to just want to hold Everton as he did Man City. Albion hardly showing any positive football or any thoughts on forcing the positive result. All their subs stayed on the bench even though the front line of players had perhaps their worst games for the club today. I can’t even recall any of Albion subs even warming up the whole game. Moyes on the other hand, perhaps sensing Hodgson’s mistake, really went for it using all three in attacking minded changes and for him it paid off big time.
As a Albion fan of 50 years standing I can tell readers that we won’t stand for much more of this kind of performance even if we are gaining the required points away from home. It’s not the Albion way and although most fans will understand at times you have to grind out results it will only take a short spell of those away points drying up for all hell to break loose, we’ve lost five games at home already. It’s not acceptable against teams in the situation like Everton, who for me were there for the taking if we committed players to the task.
We hardly got out of our own half or forced any kind of chance worthy of being the home team today and I can’t recall an Albion team less capable of hitting the target. I don’t mean lack of scoring, although that now a concern at home, I mean just shooting and making the keeper make a save even from as close of six yards we sent balls into the top tier of the stand today.
Well done Everton on forcing the issue and getting the goal that mattered, even if we did have to provide the headed knock down at our own far post. I’m so annoyed not because we lost but because of the attitude of the manager to this game. West Brom boss Roy Hodgson on his side’s late defeat by Everton: “I don’t think we played very well to be honest. Everton didn’t have to do too much to keep us out so 0-0 would have been a satisfactory result. Losing 1-0 feels a bit like being mugged especially as we were the people behind our own downfall.” it only feels like being mugges if you were mugged while flashing all you money as you walked in the darkest part of a the most dangerous town Roy. In other words you were asking to be robbed !
